Wollette Pay is the payment account that lets you take Wollette payments and receive settlements — this article takes you from the registration form through identity verification to switching the account on.
Before you start: Have your company registration number to hand (limited companies only), plus the personal details, residential address and tax identification number of everyone who has to be verified — the business owner for a sole trader, or every director and person with significant control for a limited company. Each of those people will need photo ID and, for a limited company, proof of address.
Where to find it: Sidebar → Pay
Registration happens in three stages:
Once Pay is active, the Pay menu item takes you straight to your settlements instead of this screen.
A sole trader has no company number to enter, so Submit opens the form straight away.
For a limited company, Wollette looks your company up and pre-fills what it can — your registered name, company type and the directors already on record — before opening Limited company registration. For a sole trader, Sole trader registration opens immediately.
| Field | What to enter | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Company type | Limited company or Sole trader | Required. Other business types are shown in the list but can't be selected yet. |
| Company number | Your Companies House registration number | Limited companies only. Exactly 8 characters, uppercase letters and digits only, or you'll see "Must be exactly 8 uppercase alphanumeric characters". The company must be active. |
The form opens as a full-screen dialog with a step indicator across the top.
Sole trader — the 7 steps
| Step | What it asks for |
|---|---|
| 1. Business details | Business name, Trading name (if applicable), Business website, Company email, Business phone, Business start date, your Industry and Industry line, and a Business description (maximum 120 characters). Business owner is shown as Yes and can't be changed. |
| 2. Business address | Building name, Building number, Street name, Country, County/City and Postal code. Address type is fixed to UK. |
| 3. Trading address | The same address fields. Tick Same as business address to copy what you entered on step 2. |
| 4. Business activity | Turnover, deposit, business size, what the account is for, where your money comes from, and your tax identifiers. See the table below. |
| 5. Ultimate beneficiary | The identity, contact details, residential address and tax identifiers of the person who ultimately owns the business. See the table below. |
| 6. Review | A read-only summary of everything above. |
| 7. Verification | The application is sent and processed. Nothing to fill in. |
Limited company — the 8 steps
| Step | What it asks for |
|---|---|
| 1. Company info | Registered company name, Business website, Telephone (E.164), Company email, Business start date and a Company description. |
| 2. Registration | Company number, Company type and your SIC code(s). |
| 3. Address | The registered address: Building name, Building number, Street name, Country, County/City, Postal code. Address type is UK. |
| 4. Business activity | As for a sole trader — see the table below. |
| 5. Directors | Every director of the company. See the table below. |
| 6. PSCs | Every person with significant control. See the table below. |
| 7. Review | A read-only summary of everything above. |
| 8. Verification | The application is sent and processed. Nothing to fill in. |
On the Verification step you'll see "Processing application" with "Your application is now being submitted." while it's sent, and then "Registration submitted" appears once it's accepted.
If the step still shows "Processing application" with "Your application submission is still pending, please return later.", the submission hasn't finished yet — close the dialog and come back to Pay later; your application is not lost.
This step is the one most people get stuck on, because several of the fields need more than one answer.
| Field | What to enter | Rules |

| Funding by cash / Funding by cash WollettePay | Turn on if you'll accept cash | A yes/no switch. Sole traders see Funding by cash — "Will you accept cash?"; limited companies see Funding by cash WollettePay — "Will you accept cash WollettePay?" |

| International operations countries (ISO) | Countries you trade in outside the UK | (Optional) |
| International payments countries (ISO) | Countries you send or receive payments from | (Optional) |
The ultimate beneficiary is the person who ultimately owns and benefits from the business. Their details must match their identity document, because this is the person who then completes the ID&V check.
| Field | What to enter | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| First name / Last name | The name as it appears on their passport or ID | Both required. |
| Date of birth | Their date of birth | Must be at least 18 years ago and no more than 120 — otherwise "Please provide a valid date of birth". |
| Nationality | Their nationality | Required. |
| US citizen? | Turn on if they hold US citizenship | — |
| A working personal email address | Required. The verification link is sent here, so check it carefully. | |

| Tax residency countries (ISO) | Every country they're tax resident in | At least one. |
| Residential address | Building name, Building number, Street name, Country, County/City, Postal code | Give a building name or a building number — leaving both blank shows "At least one of building name or building number must be provided". Address type is fixed to UK. |
| Country code / Identification number (Tax identifiers) | Their personal tax number and the country that issued it | Both required. |
Two separate steps, with almost identical fields for each person.
Directors — "Add all company directors". Directors already registered at Companies House are pre-filled for you; check and complete each one. Use Add director for anyone missing and Remove director to delete an entry. Each entry is collapsible, so you can work through them one at a time.
PSCs — "Add all PSCs (ownership ≥25%)". Use Add PSC and Remove PSC the same way.
Each director entry has a Person with significant control (PSC)? switch — "Enable if the director is a person with significant control."
| Field | What to enter | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| First name / Last name | The name as it appears on their identity document | Both required. |
| Ownership percentage (PSCs only) | The share of the company this person owns | Required. A person with significant control must hold at least 25%, and no one can hold more than 100% — outside that range you'll see "PSC must have at least 25% ownership". Between them, your PSCs can't own more than 100% of the company. |
| Date of birth | Their date of birth | Must be at least 18 years ago. |
| Nationality (ISO) | Their nationality | Required. |
| US citizen? | Turn on if they hold US citizenship | — |
| A working personal email address | Required. Each person gets their own verification link at this address. | |
| Telephone (E.164) | Their number in international format, e.g. +44… | Required. |
| Residential address | Their home address | Same rules as above: a building name or a building number is required. |
| Tax residency countries (ISO) | Every country they're tax resident in | At least one. |
| Country code / Identification number (Tax identifiers) | Their personal tax number and the issuing country | Required. |
| Companies house URL | A link to their Companies House record | Pre-filled where Wollette found one. If you type one, it has to be a valid web address. |
You need at least one director ("Add at least one director") and at least one person with significant control ("Add at least one person with significant control").
When your application is accepted, the form closes and a "Registration submitted" panel appears, with "Your registration is now awaiting final approval."
It shows a Registration ID: — write this down or screenshot it. Quote it if you contact support about your application.
A sole trader also sees "Identity & verification" — "ID&V checks are now required. An email has been sent with further instructions."
A limited company sees three items instead — "Documents Submitted", "Under Review" and "Email Notification" — followed by a "What's next?" list:
Closing the panel takes you to the status screen.
From now on, opening Pay shows the status screen with a three-step indicator: ID&V checks → Final review → Registration approval.
While the first step is current, you'll see "Identity & Verification". A sole trader is asked to "Complete ID&V checks for ultimate beneficiary."; a limited company to "Complete ID&V checks for all directors and PSCs".
Under Required Documents, each person needs:
Wollette emails the verification link directly to the people involved — "We'll send an email with the verification link to ultimate beneficiary." for a sole trader, or "We'll send an email with the verification link to all directors and PSCs." for a limited company. Nothing happens on this screen until they've all completed it, so chase anyone who hasn't — and ask them to check their spam folder.
Once the checks are in, the screen shows "In progress" — "We're performing the final checks on your profile." There's nothing to do; the screen updates itself.
When you're approved, the screen shows "Registration approved" — "You're all set! activate Pay to start transacting."
Click Activate Pay. Your Pay account is created and you're taken to your settlements page. From then on, Pay in the sidebar opens directly.
Before you can be paid out, add your bank details.
