Creating and managing coupon rules

Coupon rules in Wollette allow you to offer targeted discounts that can be applied at checkout using a code, barcode, or QR scan. These rules help increase customer engagement and support promotional campaigns. There are four types of coupons:

  • Based on gross price of the transaction
  • Based on the purchase frequency of a line item
  • Based on the quantity of a line item
  • Based on transaction frequency.

You can manage coupons for your store in the Merchant Dashboard.

Before you start: Some coupon and discount types are tied to particular products, so add those to your catalogue first.

Where to find it: Sidebar → Quick access → Coupon rules.

The page lists your existing rules with the columns Name, Type, Created, Valid from and Valid to.

Creating a coupon rule

The form is a two-step wizard: Basic information, then Discount. Step 1 sets out who earns a coupon and how long it lasts; step 2 sets out what the coupon is worth.

Steps

  1. Click Add coupon rule. The Add new coupon rule window opens on step Basic information.
  2. In Name, type a name for the rule.
  3. Choose a Type. This decides what a customer has to do to earn the coupon, and it controls which boxes appear below — see Coupon types underneath these steps.
  4. Fill in the extra boxes your chosen type has added.
  5. Set the validity period: Coupon valid for (a number) and Validity period unit (for example days or months). This is how long a coupon stays usable once a customer has earned it.
  6. Set Available from and Available to. This is the window in which the rule itself is running — coupons can only be earned between these two dates.
  7. Optionally add Terms & conditions.
  8. Click Next. Wollette checks the name isn't already taken before it lets you through.
  9. On the Discount step, choose a Discount type. This controls the rest of the boxes — see Discount types underneath.
  10. Enter a Discount code and, optionally, a Discount description.
  11. Fill in the remaining boxes for your chosen discount type.
  12. Click Save. Use Back to return to step 1, or Cancel to abandon the rule.

Changing the type clears everything below it. Both selectors — Type on step 1 and Discount type on step 2 — reset the rest of the form when you change them, because the fields underneath belong to the type you picked. Choose the type first, then fill in the detail. Changing Type keeps the Name you've typed; changing Discount type clears the Discount code as well.

Editing a coupon rule

Steps

  1. Find the rule in the list and open its actions menu.

  3. Change what you need across the two steps, exactly as when creating a rule.
  4. Click Save.

Remember that changing Type or Discount type clears everything below it, so on an edit you'd have to re-enter those details.

What happens next

The window closes and you'll see "Coupon rule updated successfully". The list refreshes with the new values.

Deleting a coupon rule

Steps

  1. Find the rule in the list and open its actions menu.
  2. Choose Delete.
  3. A Delete rule confirmation appears, naming the rule: "Are you sure you want to delete rule" followed by its name.
  4. Click Delete to confirm, or Cancel to keep it.

What happens next

You'll see "Coupon rule deleted" and the rule disappears from the list. Deleting is permanent — you'd have to build the rule again from scratch.
