Managing your tax rates

Adding tax rates in the Wollette Merchant Dashboard ensures your sales comply with local tax. Create the taxes you charge — VAT and anything else — and the rates that go with them, so they can be attached to your products.

Where to find it: Back office → Taxes (or Quick access → Taxes in the sidebar)

Creating a tax

The dialog is headed New tax and has two steps: Basic information and Tax rates.

Steps

  1. Go to sidebar or back office → Taxes.
  2. Click + New tax at the top right.
  3. Enter a Tax name and a Description. Both are required.
  4. Click Next. This is the point at which the tax is created.
  5. You're now on Tax rates, with the name and description shown in a panel at the top — the pencil button there takes you back to change them.
  6. Type the rate as a percentage into the box, e.g. 20 for 20%.
  7. Click + Add rate, or press Enter.
  8. Repeat for as many rates as you need. Add at least one — a tax with no rate has nothing to charge.
  9. Click Save.

The tax exists from the moment you click Next. Clicking Cancel afterwards closes the dialog but does not remove it — if you didn't mean to create it, reopen it from the list and correct the details.

What happens next

You'll see "Tax created" when you click Next, and "Tax rate added successfully" each time a rate is added. The rate appears at the top of the table straight away. When you click Save, the dialog closes and the tax appears in the Taxes list.

Field reference

FieldWhat to enterRules
Tax nameWhat the tax is called, e.g. VATRequired, up to 100 characters, must be unique, can't start with a space
DescriptionWhat the tax applies toRequired, up to 100 characters, can't start with a space

Editing a tax

Steps

  1. Go to Back office → Taxes.
  2. Open the row's actions menu and choose Edit. The dialog is headed Edit tax.
  3. On Basic information, change the Tax name or Description.
  4. Click Next.
  5. On Tax rates, add any new rates you need.
  6. Click Update.

Update stays greyed out until you've changed the name or description, or added a rate.

What happens next

You'll see "Tax updated successfully" and the list refreshes with the new details. Any product with this tax attached picks up the change.

Adding a new rate

Rates are dated rather than overwritten, so when your rate changes you add the new figure — you don't edit the old one.

Steps

  1. Go to Back office → Taxes.
  2. Open the row's actions menu and choose Edit.
  3. Click Next to reach Tax rates.
  4. Type the new percentage into the box and click + Add rate.
  5. Click Update.

What happens next

You'll see "Tax rate added successfully". The new rate goes to the top of the table with today's date in the From column, and the rate it replaces gets that same date in its To column — so the table reads as a history of what you charged and when.
