Adding, editing and deleting categories

Group your products into categories so they're easy to find on the POS and in reports.

Before you start: Nothing — this is available as soon as you sign in.

Where to find it: Back office → Categories (or Quick access → Categories in the sidebar)

Categories are attached to products from the product itself, so it's worth creating them before you start adding products.

Creating a category

Add category opens a dialog with three steps across the top: Category *, Languages * and Media. The first two are required, the third isn't.

Steps

  1. Go to sidebar or back office → Categories.
  2. Click Add category.
  3. On Category *, enter the Name and a Description. Both are required.
  4. When you click out of the Name box, Wollette checks whether you already have a category with that name. Wait for the spinner to finish.
  5. Click Next.
  6. On Languages *, click Select language to add and choose a language from the list. A row is added to the table below.
  7. Type the name of the category in that language into the Value column. Repeat for as many languages as you need; use the bin icon to remove a row. At least one language is required.
  8. Click Create. This is the point at which the category is created.
  9. On Media, upload a Category thumbnail if you want one.
  10. Click Add to finish, or Skip if you'd rather not add a picture. (The button reads Skip until you've uploaded a thumbnail, then Add.)

Careful after step 8. The category exists from the moment you click Create. If you then close the dialog — with the X, the Escape key, or by clicking outside it — the category is removed again. The same happens if you click Back to the first step and then Cancel. To keep it, finish with Add or Skip.

What happens next

You'll see "Category created" as soon as you click Create, and the new category appears in the list once you close the dialog with Add or Skip.

Editing a category

You can change a category's description, its language entries and its picture. The name can't be changed — the Name box isn't shown when you're editing. If you need a different name, create a new category and delete the old one.

Steps

  1. Go to Back office → Categories.
  2. Find the category — use the Search box if the list is long.
  3. Click the category's name, or open the row's actions menu and choose Edit. The dialog is headed Edit category with the category name beneath.
  4. On Category *, update the Description.
  5. Click Next and, on Languages *, add, change or remove language entries.
  6. Click Next and, on Media, upload or remove the Category thumbnail.
  7. Click Done.

Done stays greyed out until you've actually changed something.

What happens next

You'll see "Success!", the dialog closes and the list refreshes with the new details.

Deleting a category

Steps

  1. Go to Back office → Categories.
  2. Open the row's actions menu and choose Delete.
  3. A "Delete" prompt asks "Are you sure?"
  4. Click Delete to go ahead, or Cancel to keep it.

What happens next

You'll see "Category deleted" and the category disappears from the list. Products that were in it stay in your catalogue — they simply lose that category.
