Registering for card services

Card services let you take card payments through the Wollette POS with no extra hardware — this article covers switching them on for the first time.

Before you start: You'll need to know who your merchant acquirer is. If you've never taken card payments before, you probably don't have one, and Wollette can help you apply for a merchant account with Elavon — that part takes days rather than minutes, so start it early.

Where to find it: Sidebar → Card services

The Card services not enabled screen

Until card services are registered, Card services shows "Card services not enabled" with a panel explaining the integration:

"We enable secure, contactless acceptance, no extra hardware required. Through this integration, you can accept cards directly through Wollette POS by simply clicking the card icon at checkout."

The button below it is Register for card services/

Telling Wollette who your acquirer is

An acquirer is the company that provides your merchant account and processes card payments for your business. Wollette needs to know which one you use before it can register you.

Steps

  1. Click Register for card services.
  2. The panel changes to "Your merchant acquirer is required""To accept card payments, you'll need to tell us who your acquirer is."
  3. If you're not sure what's being asked, click See more information next to "Not sure what an acquirer is?". This opens What is a merchant acquirer?, which explains what an acquirer is and lists where to find yours: your welcome email or letter, your merchant account or payment portal, a recent card-processing statement, or your card terminal documentation.
  4. Choose one of the two buttons:
    • I know my acquirer — opens Enter your merchant acquirer. Pick yours from Merchant acquirer (placeholder "Select from the list") and click Submit. The list includes Elavon, Worldpay, Fiserv Europe, Amex, JPMorgan Chase, Nets, Swedbank, myPOS and others. Can't find your acquirer? opens the explanation above.
    • I don't have an acquirer — starts the Elavon application described below.

What happens next

"Merchant acquirer registered successfully" appears and the Register for card services form opens automatically so you can carry on.

Applying for a merchant account with Elavon

Steps

  1. On the acquirer panel, click I don't have an acquirer.
  2. Apply for a merchant account with Elavon opens — "We've partnered with Elavon to set you up with a new Merchant ID (MID) and Terminal ID (TID). Complete a short application to get started."
  3. Click Create a merchant account. Elavon's application form opens in a new browser tab. Cancel closes the dialog without applying.
  4. Complete Elavon's form in that tab.

What happens next

"Please finish your application in partner form." appears, and Card services now shows the waiting panel: "Have you received your merchant account details from Elavon?"

"Elavon will email you directly to get the process started to get your merchant account details. Once the conversation starts this can take a little time — there's nothing you need to do until then. Once your confirmation email arrives, let us know using the button below."

The panel has three buttons:

ButtonWhat it does

Still need to finish your application?Reopens Elavon's application form in a new tab so you can pick up where you left off.
Need to cancel your request to Elavon?Opens Cancel your Elavon request? — "This will cancel your merchant account application with Elavon. You can start a new request at any time." Confirm with Yes, cancel request or back out with Keep my request.

Cancelling shows "Your Elavon request has been cancelled" and returns you to the Card services not enabled screen, where you can start again.

Confirming your details shows "Merchant acquirer registered successfully" and opens the Register for card services form.
